multiplying exponents in fraction form

4^1/3 * 4^1/3 = (4^1/3)^2

(4^1/3)^2 = 4^(2/3)

4^(2/3) = (cubic root of 4)squared

(4^1/3)(4^1/3) = 4^1/9 = ^9sqrt4
The rule for exponents is that, when multiplying the same base, you add the powers. That is: xmxn = xm+n. So you would need to add the one-third powers, not multiply them.

Also, what do you mean by your "^9" notation? And how did the nineth root turn into a square root?

Also, did you convert from powers to roots because the instructions said something like "express your final answer in radical form"?

Thank you.
