One car leaves Barstow for Las Vegas traveling at 70mph. Two hours later another car leaves Barstow for San Diego at 60mph. How long has each car been traveling when they are 400 miles apart?

I'm completely lost with this problem, I started off by saying:

Let X= the amount of time has passed when they are 400miles apart.

My teacher didn't really teach it that well.

Re: WordProblems! Show all four steps.

distance = rate * time. Right?.

Car A travels 70t miles.

Car B leaves 2 hours later, so it has traveled 60(t-2)

The difference in their distances must be 400

\(\displaystyle 70t-60(t-2)=400\)

Solve for t.
