Janice’s family grows tomato plants on a rectangular piece of land. The total area of the garden is 3/8 square units, and the length of the rectangle representing this piece of land is 1/2 unit.

Part A. What is the width of the garden? Write an equation to show how to calculate the width of this piece of land. Solve the equation you wrote and explain how you know that your solution is correct. Daughter responses is: 3/8 x 1/2 = 3/16

Part B. Janice wants to help with growing the tomatoes. Her parents tell her that she can take care of 1/8 of the garden. If one plant takes up 1/24 of the land, how many tomato plants will Janice need to take care of?Daughter response is 1/8 divided by 1/24 = 2/6

Use the visual fraction model below to show your answer. Circle the part of garden that Janice will take care of, and put an X through each box to represent the number of tomato plants she will garden.
