That was a misprint. He meant \(\displaystyle A^2B^2\). The point is \(\displaystyle (AB)^2= ABAB\) is NOT equal to \(\displaystyle A^2B^2\) because matrix multiplication is not, generally, "commutative". For most matrices BA is not equal to AB.
