A car is approaching the lights when he notices late that they are turning red. The road is wet and, in applying the brakes, the wheels lock up causing the car to slide to a halt in 12m.
a) Given that the car was travelling at 54 km/hr and had a mass of 2000 kg, model the car as a particle and find an estimate for the co-efficient of friction between the road and car tyres (2 s.f.).
b) It was later found that the car had a full boot giving a total mass in excess of 2000 kg. Explain how this new information would influence your estimated coefficient of friction.
