OK heres my question Im working some problems out of my nursing math handbook and although I have gotten every question right in this section I cannot get this one where am I going wrong.

Question: Solve for X
75:X = 1/300:4
I keep coming up with 100000
My book says 90000

I multiply the extremes and get 300
I multiply the means and get .003X
I divide the two and get 100000
Where have I gone wrong?

product of extremes: 75*4

product of means: (1/300)*x

product of means = product of extremes
(1/300)*x = 75*4

(1/300)*x = 300

How did you get 0.003x for the product of the means? 1/300 is NOT the same thing as 0.003.

If you divide both sides by (1/300)....or multiply both sides by 300/1....you should get

(300/1)*(1/300)*x = (300/1)*300

x = 90000

Anutter way...

Your equation is same as 75 / x = (1/300) / 4

Rule: if a/b = c/d, then ad = bc

So: x(1/300) = 75(4)
x/300 = 300
x = 300(300) = 90000

I think I now see the error of my ways. Thank You
I think I was so fustrated( and tired) i wasnt seeing the equation correct. THANK YOU
