Mean = Median, but Mode is greater than twice the Mean

I've been going nuts trying to find an answer for this and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to go about it.

The problem: Ten exam scores ranging from 0-100 (inclusive) where the mean equals the median and the mode is more than twice the mean.

I am able to get all sorts of results for the mean = median. Except they are all consecutive values by 1,2,5,10 etc. and therefore have no mode.

If anyone has any idea on how to make this work, I would be forever grateful!

Thanks, Misty

What were the instructions? What are you supposed to do with this statement?

Thank you.

This is as close as I could get...

This is as close as I could get...

Property: the mean equals the median but the mode is greater than twice the mean

0 - 10 - 15 - 20 - 25 - 30 - 35 - 40 - 50 - 50

Mean: 27.5
Median: 27.5
Mode: 50

Okay, but what were the instructions? What were you supposed to do with whichever part of the above is the exercise?

Thank you.

We were to find ten values between 0-100 where the mean and the median were equal, and the mode was twice as much.

The closest I could get to accomplishing this was what I posted. The mean and the median were equal, but not quite twice the mode.

I've already turned the assignment, and will find out the answer when the key is posted on Monday.

I doubt there is only one answer. Any number of combinations should work. The median is just the middle value, so pick some middle-ish value, and then the mode (the most-repeated value) will be twice that (so the median had better be 50 or less). The mean is just the average, so scatter the values around the median, in a roughly balanced manner. Tweak as necessary.

Any of the following would work:

. . . . .1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 11, 14, 16, 20, 20

. . . . .3, 5, 6, 10, 24, 26, 35, 40, 50, 50

. . . . .0, 10, 20, 40, 45, 55, 60, 70, 100, 100

...and so forth.
