Hi all, I am new to this forum so excuse me if I am doing something wrong. I did some math at college but can't recall how to tackle the below question (I think it involves matrices). Can anyone walk me through the solution again to remember how to do this? Thank you!

How many times do each of the a,b,c have to repeat to align in m(is 96) or in a multiple of 96
a is 20
b is 9
c is 3

km equals ay equals bv equals cx .

What is the meaning of "m(is 96)"? What is the relationship of k, m, v, x, and y to a, b, and c? What is meant by "aligning"? On what basis have you determined this exercise to relate to matrices?

When you reply, please include a clear listing of your thoughts and efforts so far. Thank you! ;)

It sounds like you are looking for the smallest multiple (k x 96) of 96 which is also a multiple of a, b, and c. Since a common multiple of 20 (=5 x 4) and 96 (=24x4) must be a multiple of 5x96, so k has to be a multiple of 5. Since a common multiple of 9 (=3x3) and 96 (=32x3) must be a multiple of 3x96, k must also be a multiple of 3. 96 is already a multiple of 3. So k must be a multiple of both 5 and 3. The smallest such k is therefore 15.

15x96 = 20x72 = 9x160=3x480
