( ignore .... they are space fillers, -1 on the outside of matrix 2 is the inverse sign)

Solve for matrix A A = ??

Id appreciate it if anyone could help me out with this one!! THX

if possible could u show some of your steps, such as how u separate the A matrix from multiplying with the first matrix .. thats the part that stumps me...

THANKS SOO MUCH

Do you mean the following?

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \large{-A\,\left[\begin{array}{rrr}0&-4&0\\-76&-264&-64\\24&80&20\end{array}\right]\, -\,4\,\left[\begin{array}{rrr}1&0&0\\-13&3&-2\\1&-1&1\end{array}\right]^{-1}\, =\,\left[\begin{array}{rrr}-856&-2916&-716\\-12&140&20\\440&1648&392\end{array}\right]}\)

And "A" is a matrix as well? And you're supposed to find A2?

A good first step, naturally, would be to invert the second matrix, multiply the "4" through, and add the result to the right-hand side, leaving the product of -A and the first matrix on the left-hand side. Then invert that first matrix, and multiply this inverse (on the right, of course) on both sides of the equation. This should leave you with "(-A) = (some matrix)".

Multiply through by -1 to get A, and then square.

If you get stuck, please reply showing what you have tried. Thank you.

Eliz.
