I am so confused... I just need to know where to start, any help would be appreciative.
 
Trace what is happening to the rows...

After the first step, rows 1,3,4,5 remain unchanged. Row 2 now is \(\displaystyle v_2+3v_1\).
After the second step, rows 1,3,5 remain unchanged. Row 4 now is \(\displaystyle -2v_4\).

Keep going. Note \(\displaystyle v_1\) will not show up in your answer, as no row operations are done with it.
 
i got v5 = v2 + 3v1 - 3v4

Why shouldnt there be a v1 in my final answer?

i think there should be. Look at operation number 1.

Can you confirm my answer?
 
Right, I don't know why I said that, sorry.

Your new row 5 will be \(\displaystyle R_5 = v_5 -(v_2+3v_1 + (-2)v_4) = \overline{0}\)
