Hi can any one please put the following word problem into an equation.Need to see how one gets the answer.

In a soccer league ,teams get 3 points for a win,1point for a draw,0 points for defeat.A team with 18 points has won 2 more games than it has drawn.How many games has it won?

The answer is 5 but I just can't seem to out it down to an equation format.

Can someone please assist?

Denis wrote two equations, one for each statement. To reduce "3w+ d= 18" and "w= d+ 2" to a single equation in w, note that w= d+ 2 is the same as d= w- 2. Replacing the "d" in the first equation, we have 3w+ (w- 2)= 4w- 2= 18. Solve that equation for w.
