A cubic yard is a cube that measures one yard in each dimension.

Since one yard is the same as 3 feet, a cubic yard measures 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet.

Volume = length * width * height

Volume = 3 feet * 3 feet * 3 feet = 27 feet^3
