The longest side of a triangle is four less than three times the shortest side. The other side is ten more than the shortest side. Find the length of each side of the triangle if the perimeter is 196 feet.

The longest side of a triangle is four less than three times the shortest side. The other side is ten more than the shortest side. Find the length of each side of the triangle if the perimeter is 196 feet.
The other sides are defined in terms of the shortest side, so pick a variable for the shortest side.

What expression stands for "ten more than" this variable? So what expression stands for the length of "the other side"?

What expression stands for "three times" this variable? What expression stands for "for less than" "three times" the variable? So what expression stands for "the shortest side"?

What is the definition of "perimeter"?

Given the variable, the expressions for the other two sides, and the definition of "perimeter", what equation can you create?

Solve the linear equation for the value of the variable. Back-solve for the three lengths. ;)
