Bob has a pool in his backyard. The current dimensions are 4m (Width) by 10m (Length) by 1m (Depth). She wants to increase each dimension so that the surface area of the liner is 100m-squared. The liner of the pool only covers 5 sides (not the top). What dimensions will her new pool have?

stuck on this question and would appreciate help

Since you posted this to "Arithmetic", rather than to algebra, geometry, etc, you're going to need to help us understand what material has been covered in class, which might be sufficient to allow you to answer this exercise.

Note: A good first step might be to draw a picture of the current brick-shaped space, label the dimensions, and find the current surface area, noting that a "liner" won't (as far as I know) cover the top. What happens if you make each dimension one unit greater? Two units? And so forth.

Thank you! ;)
