The presidential campaign for a certain candidate had to cut its expenditures by one tenth from the projected budget because fundraising did not go as well as expected. 3/4 of the campaign funds (in both projected budget and actual expenditures were for TV advertising. The actual expenditures for TV advertising ended up after the one tenth cut at 81,000,000. What was the original total projected campaign budget (assumed that the campaign fundraising reached its goal)??

So far I have:
81,000,000 multiplied by 4 and divided by three is 108,000,000
and now what? Please help me! :)

Hi. There are dozens more qualified than I to help you, but they may be asleep now or just busy, so I will give it a stab. Your problem seems similar to finding out the original cost of a discounted product--that is, say you bought an ipod for $200 after a 20% discount, what was the original price?
$200= 80% x original cost
change percent to a decimal
$200= .80 x original cost
original cost = $200/.80 = $250
so back to your problem--can you do it now?

remember 81,000,000 is after a 1/10 "discount" thus 81,000,000 equals what percent of the original? 90%
After you do the first eqaution and get the original budgeted amount you must then do one more percentage eqaution
keep in mind that the original TVbudgeted amount = 75% of the whole budget.
If you are still confused I will show you the equations but you probably can do it now. Yell help if you still do not know.
