4x^2-8x-5x^2-5x=2--> 4x^2 -8x -5x^2 + 5x =2 . . . (-)(-) = + :wink:
-x^2-13x=2
lost at this point ?

Kathy, try and be a little clearer....
4x(x-2) - 5x(x-1) = 2

4x^2 - 8x - 5x^2 + 5x = 2
-x^2 - 3x - 2 = 0 ; multiply by -1 to get:
x^2 + 3x + 2 = 0 ; factor that to get:
(x + 2)(x + 1) = 0

Can you finish it?
