Looking for 'real life' example of sine or cosine wave

Our teacher asked up to come up with a "real" Example of Either a Sine Wave, or Cosine Wave.

I was thinking of doing Sound for sine wave, but am having trouble coming up with the following: How it is RELATED to the period function & its graph(s) and what factors would influence its period, amplitude, phase shift (if any) and vertical shift (if any) for the sound sine wave??
