I'm intersested in knowing how?

These questions refer to the table of logariths (which are not to base 10)

x - log x
1.2 - 0.166
1.4 - 0.306
1.6 - 0.428
1.8 - 0.535
2.0 - 0.631
2.2 - 0.718
2.4 - 0.797
2.6 - 0.870
2.8 - 0.937

Q1. Value of log 4.8?

Q2. Value of log 1.3?

Q3. Value of log 8?

I'm reading this chapter now, but this maths book can be pretty vague. Help understanding would be appreciated:)

Yohanson:)

(Edit: easier to read now)

That is base 3.

Use the change of base formula.

\(\displaystyle \frac{log(4.8)}{log(3)}\approx{1.428}\)

2.0 - 0.631
2.2 - 0.718
2.4 - 0.797
2.6 - 0.870
2.8 - 0.937

use the laws of logs ...

Q1. Value of log 4.8?
log(4.8) = log(2*2.4) = log(2) + log(2.4) = 0.631 + 0.797

Q2. Value of log 1.3?
log(1.3) = log(2.6/2) = log(2.6) - log(2) = 0.870 - 0.631

Q3. Value of log 8?
log(8) = log(23) = 3log(2) = 3(0.631)
