The equation on my assignment reads: log 10^3 = x. That is exactly how it is written (I'm used to seeing a base).

log (1000) = x
3 = x

Then, the next question reads: log x = 3.

10^3 = x
1000 = x

Am I on the right track?

log (1000) = x
3 = x <<< Correct

???

Generally when base is not specified explicitly - Log is calculated with base 10 (for Ln the base is ofcourse e)
