Absolutely, you are right!
But some things are so fundamental, one has to question how sincerer the question is meant to be.
 
use u-substitution

the derivative of ln u is (1/u)(du) or du/u... the derivative of 1+x is 1... so the deriviative is 1/(1+x)
 
Don't stress it Lauren. In the front or back of your book is a table with all the fundamental rules for differentiation and integration. Just sit down one Saturday and memorize every single one, even if you haven't gotten to them yet. Better to get them down now than to struggle later at the last minute.
