We will help you through this struggle - but you will have to do the "travelling".

The largest four digit number would be 9999. What is the sum of the digits - 36. This is the only four digit number with the digit sum = 36.

Now consider the numbers whose "digit-sum" would be 35. These would be some arrangement of the digits 9,9,9 & 8. How many was can you arrange those numbers to form 4-digit numbers?

I’ve gotten 35 permutations in total by conditioning each digit, but I’m not sure if this is correct. I am quite new to this strategic area of mathematics as an 8th grader hence the confusion! Thank you

Even if the answer is 35, we have no way of knowing if you have the correct 35. As already asked my Dr Khan, please show us your work.
