In 1990, the life expectancy of amles ina certain country was 62.6 years. In 1996, it was 65.4 years. Let E represent the life expectancy in year t and let t represent the number of years since 1990.

The linear function E(t) that fits the data is

E(t)=
(round to the nearest tenth)

Use the function to predict the life expectancy of males in 2007.

E(17)=
(round to the nearest tenth)

You did not ask any specific questions, so I cannot determine where you're stuck.

You did not make any statements about what you already know.

Do you understand what a linear function is? If not, then you need to learn this before attempting any word problems that involve linear functions.

Tell me what you already know about this exercise, and we'll go from there.

For example, if I were to tell you that the points (-4, 9) and (11, 37) are on some line, would you know how to determine the equation of this line in Slope-Intercept form?

The graph of life expectancy (in your exercise) is a line.

They've given you enough information to determine the coordinates of two points on this line.
