[h=2]Let F(x)=5−6x,evaluate and simplify the following. (f(x))^2[/h]
I have tried many answers and all have failed. some of the answers i have tried are: 36x^2+25,-36x^2+25,36x^2+5,6x^2+5,6x^2+25. I have run out of ideas

Hint:

Use

(a + b)2 = a2 + b2 + 2*a*b

and tell us what you get.

Hi. The notation ( f(x) )^2 means the same as f(x)^2, and it's telling us that the output from function f is being squared.

We're told that the output from function f is: 5-6x (that's the same as -6x+5, if you prefer).

In other words, f(x)^2=(-6x+5)^2

So square it. That is, multiply out (-6x+5)*(-6x+5), using the FOIL steps (double distribution) or the factoring pattern posted by Subhotosh.

Then, if you believe that your answer is still incorrect, post your work so that we can help you find the mistake. Cheers :cool:

Thank you

I was making a simple mistake of putting x into the equation then separately squaring each individual answer. I did as recommended by you all and it worked. Thanks!
