Is this a function?

It's the mother again! The problem is to determine if this relation is a function.

8y = 7 + 3x

I'm guessing it's not a function, but I really don't know why. Any advice?

As always, I know enough to be dangerous.

I read the information you referred to regarding functions. I do find it to be somewhat vague by definition which is how I got myself into such a debate on this question. I'll see what input my son has about his one when we work it together this afternoon. Thank you for your guidance.

My son made a 91 on a quiz last week. Yeah!! This is in contrast to grades from 26 to 65 or so. Cumulative chapter test is tomorrow, so stay tuned. We will get through this thanks to all the help! The best part is he is learning not to freak out when he thinks he does not know an answer. He's learning to break the problems down into workable steps. Until next time.......
