I'm reading Algebra Demystified, by Huettenmueller, and trying to understand algebraic division.
They say that 22/7 = 3 1/7. I expected the answer to be 3 + 1/7, but it's very clearly 3 1/7.
At first I thought it was a mistake. But the book is full of these, all done the same way.
And if I multiply it out, I get. 3/1 * 1/7 = 3/7!
Am I wrong? Is 3/7 = 22/7?
Can someone please explain this witchcraft to me?
