hello all,

I don't understand the following question:

If y varies inversely as x, find the inverse variation equation for the situation.

y = 1/6 when x = 54

thank you

Hi, lobacca!

The general form for an inverse variation is

xy = k

where "k" is the "constant of variation."

In your problem, you know that when x = 54, y = 1/6. Substitute for x and y:
54(1/6) = k
9 = k

So, the equation for this particular inverse variation is
xy = 9

I hope this helps you.

Oh.

Well, yes, in a maths forum, that would make more sense.... :oops:

...but "Mr. Spy" was cooler.... :wink: :D
