find the inverse function for...
x= -10, 6, 0, -6, 4

f^{-1}(x)= ?,?,?,?,?,

How do I do this problem? Could someone work out the inverse for -10? [/b]

What do you mean when you say that you need "the i[n]verse function for x -10, 6, 0, -6, 4"? Are you trying to find the inverse function, or are you trying to find y-values for the given x-values, or something else?

Please reply with the exact text of the instructions.

Thank you.

Eliz.

The function in the graph is \(\displaystyle \L
y = \left\{ \begin{array}{l}
- x + 4\quad x \le 2 \\
- 2x + 6\quad 2 < x \\
\end{array} \right.\)

Now you can find the inverse of each piece
Do not forget to ‘switch’ the domains!

the question is worded
use the graph f(x) to complete the following table for values of its inverse function, f^{-1}(x).

How did you compute that function into y= ????

That graph is of a piece-wise linear function
Can you write the equation of a line?
Can you find the inverse of y=mx+b, m not zero?

I still don't understand how to do this problem! Can someone please help me out here.

I found the solutions by trial and error on the tables of the function you posted above...here they are.

Now could some one please instruct me on how to do this for the future.

x -10=8 6=-2 0=3 -6=6 4=0
