Solve the system by substitution.

8x + 4y = -12
2x - 4y = -48

What is the solution of the system and what is the ordered pair?

Momo

What have you done so far?
Do you know what the method of substitution is?
Do you know what is meant by the ordered pair?

It is very hard to answer your questions sensibly if we do not know what you know and where you are stuck.

I know that we take 12 +48 and add them together which gives us 60
8x + 4y = -12
2x - 4y = -48
______________
60
And then I get confused over what to do next?

momo61,

if you add the two equations, then the y terms cancel, and you get

10x = -60

\(\displaystyle However,\) you are not allowed to do that for this method. You must solve
for one of the variables and substitute that expression for the variable you
solved into the other equation.
