Entomology is the scientific study of insects. Jung, tara, and Pavan collected some insects for their science project. At the end of the first week of collecting Jung and Tara together had 26 insects, Tara and Pavan together had 18 insects, and Pavan and Jung together had 22 insects. How many insects did each person have alone?

I don't know how to do this problem. Can someone show me how to do it? Please ASAP.

Your request for help is too vague, for me to determine what help you need. In the future, try to make some statements about what you already know or tried.

I would start by assigning variables to represent each of the three unknown quantities that we've been asked to find.

J = the number of bugs in Jung's insect collection

P = the number of bugs in Pavan's insect collection

T = the number of bugs in Tara's insect collection

Now that we have symbols to represent these unknown numbers, we can use them to write a system of three equations.

I'll write your first equation for you.

We are told, "Jung and Tara together [have] 26 insects".

The following equation models this statement.

J + T = 26

Can you write the other two equations, in this system?

Show us what you get, and we'll go from there.

It would also help us, if you were to explain what you've learned about solving equations.

Ok. So if i now have J+T=26, then the others would be J+P=22 and T+P=18? So then what? What do I do after?

I don't like L.A. The majority just seem so artificial. See how they worship everything fashionable. Isn't it sick?

So you now have 3 equations, 3 unknowns:
solve the way your teacher showed in class...

?

I asked you to make some statements about what you've already learned, with respect to solving systems of equations.

(Many students seem to believe that I can "read" what's in their mind. I can't.)

There are many methods for solving systems of linear equations. Off the top of my head, I can think of five different ways to determine the values of J, P, and T.

I have no idea which method your instructor expects you to use.

Do you have any notes from class, or anything else, that might give me some clue?
