4 - |x - 2| < 2

Could someone show me just the beginning steps of this problem. Thanks

Subtract 4 from both sides: -|x - 2| < -2

Divide both sides by -1, flipping the sign: |x - 2| > 2

This is an or statement. Now continue.

4 - |x-2| < 2

subtract 4 from both sides ...

-|x-2| < -2

multiply both sides by (-1) ... note that the inequality changes direction

|x-2| > 2

you now have two cases ...

x-2 > 2 or x-2 < -2

solve both cases to determine the solution set.
