I have to solve the inequality: IxI - 2 < 0. (The "I I" is supposed to represent the modulus symbol, but I can't find it on my PC.) I make the answer "x=2" as follows:

1. -0<IxI-2<0
2. 2<x<2 Add 2 to both sides.
3. x=2

The answer given is: "-2 < x < 2"

Can anyone explain this for me, please ?

Remember, |x| can be either x or -x.

Now try.

Look on your keyboard, probably just above the "Enter" key. The "shift" character on the "backslash" key (which inserts "\" into your text) should be the "pipe" character: |

Note: The "pipe" character may look "broken" on your keyboard; despite this, it should type the correct character. ;)
