inequalities problem: 2x > x + 10 > -x

Hi, I am having toruble with this problem:

2x >x+10> -x

The answer is suppsoed to be x>10 but I do not understand how you get that answer. Thanks for your help.

look at it as two inequalities ... 2x > x + 10, and x + 10 > -x

solve each one individually ...

2x > x + 10
x > 10

x + 10 > -x
2x + 10 > 0
2x > -10
x > -5

you have two solution sets ... x > 10 and x > -5

the intersection of those two sets (where they overlap) is the set x > 10 because all values of x > 10 will satisfy both inequalities.
