Assuming that the regression equation for the relationship between IQ score and psychology exam score is Y' = 9 + 0.274X, what would you expect the psychology exam scores to be for the following individuals given their IQ exam scores?

Individual
Tim
Tom
Tina
Tory

IQ Score (X)
Tim's IQ Score = 118
Tom's IQ Score = 98
Tina's IQ Score = 107
Tory's IQ Score = 103

Psychology Exam Score (Y)
Tim =
Tom =
Tina =
Tory =

I left the Psychology Exam Scores blank after the equals sign because there isn't any numbers listed for this problem under the Psychology Exam Score (Y).

so your given this equation Y' = 9 + 0.274X and its telling you that you can predict y from x. In the question your given the values for x. So sub in your x values into the equation and you will get y.

for example
Tim's score = 9 + 0.274(118)

Are you sure that was Y' and not just Y?

Individual Score, IQ Score (X), and Psychology Exam Score (Y)

In the problem stating the regression equation it states the following: Y' = 9 + 0.274X. As for the Psychology Exam Score is just states the following: Psychology Exam Score (Y). Depending upon what ever Y or Y', I hope that I have answered your question.

Are you sure that was Y' and not just Y?

Is this right then with the following problem or am I supposed to round it when it turns into a decimal point answer? Please tell me if this is right or correct or what corrections I need to make.

Tim's Score = Y' = 9 + 0.274X
Y' = 9 + 0.274 (118)
Y' = 9 + 0.274 x 118
Y' = 9 + 32.332
Y' = 41.332

so your given this equation Y' = 9 + 0.274X and its telling you that you can predict y from x. In the question your given the values for x. So sub in your x values into the equation and you will get y.

for example
Tim's score = 9 + 0.274(118)

yup like that. Rounding depends on your teacher I normally just leave two spaces after the decimal point but you should ask your teacher so you don't loose marks for that

If that is correct - then the answer to the question originally posed should be "cannot be calculated"

You have been given an equation with Y' as dependant variable.

Then you have been asked to find Y - that cannot be done.

IQ Score, Exam Score (Y), and Individual

I will ask my instructor about that what answer she is looking for. Thanks again for your explanation and I will see what she says.

I only posted the problem that was in my textbook and the problem is correct on what I originally posted. Is the answer to the question supposed to be "cannot be calculated" for all the Individual's Psychology Exam Score (Y)? I want to make sure and get this understanding for this material so that way I can do a good job on my Midterm Exam which I have next week over 6 Chapters. Is Y' supposed to represent the dependent variable? Please explain further about this and I will see exactly what my instructor is asking for because I am only going off the problem in the textbook. Maybe, the textbook made an error so will see what happens when I send an email to my professor. Again, thanks for spotting this because I wasn't aware of what the Y' represented.
