Honestly have no idea how to do these three problems, I end up getting different answers each time.. I'm supposed to find the vertical asymptote, horizontal asymptote, x intercept, y intercept, domain, and range for each one.. g(x)=(x^2+1)/(x^2-2X) - 1.. The -1 is from the entire equation not just from the denominator.. Problem two: h(a)=a^3/a^2+4 Problem three: f(x)=(2)/(x^2-9)-2.. the -2 is from the entire equation not just the denominator..

Stay calm.

What does it mean to find the domain of a function? To put it a different way, what is the domain of a function. All that you are being asked to do is to take a general definition and apply it to a specific case. Same thing about range. What is its definition? By the way, it helps to have a vocabulary. If y = f(x), y is the value of the function, and x is an argument of the function. The x-intercepts are the values of x for which y = 0. In other words, the values of x where the graph of the function crosses the x-axis. Again, this involves knowing a definition. The y-intercept is the value of the function when x = 0. Another definition. Now why don't you try to apply those definitions to the first problem. Then we can talk about asymptotes.

Ouch! They were supposed to make sure you knew algebra before they placed in an calculus course!

I end up getting different answers each time..
For us to be able to figure out where you're going wrong, we'll need to see at least one example of what you've been doing for each of these three exercises. So please reply with that information.

By the way, Google will provide you with loads of links for lessons on these topics, such as intercepts, domain and range, asymptotes, and graphing rational functions. ;)
