An entertainer has an ordinary deck of playing cards. He goves this deck to one person. First, that person flips a card over. If the card is a K, Q, or J, then she has to put is back in the middle and contnues to get a number card. (The aces are regarded as being the number 1.) Beginning with that flipped card the person counts from that card to 12 by taking the cards from the deck and placing it in a pile. Flipped the cards over when you get to 12. You keep doing this until you ran out of cards or don't have enough. Then, you add the top cards together to get a sum. The entertainer will then ask how many piles you have and how many cards is left. There is 6 piles and 5 cards left over. Some how he told the correct sum of the cards to her... The question is that.. how did he figured what the sum was? and what is the sum?
I need help on the question "how did he figured what the sum was?"
I actually did this problem with cars.
These are some of the results I had. My teacher told us to consider that there is 52 cards ina deck, 4 cards in a suit, and 13 suits. The problem is that.. I cannot figure a way to connect all these numbers and fina a way to figure out the entertainer's strategy..
Please help me. Thank you!
