Would be less likely to trip yourself up if you went at it a bit this way:

1: rearrange so less confusing:
-2(xy - y) - x(3 + y) + x + 4xy

2: do 1st term:
-2xy + 2y

3: do 2nd term:
-3x - xy

4: put 'em all together:
-2xy + 2y - 3x - xy + x + 4xy

5: perform conclusion!
