I think im failing math because of this problem!!! HELP!

How far can you get on your own? Do you know what 5(k + 2) means?
 
I have to figure out what k is... but like I don't even know where to start!
 
FYI im homeschooled and i teach myself coz my mom is too busy! :I

This is self-contradictory. Your mother is the person homeschooling you, correct? Then your
mom can't be too busy to help you, because she is the person homeschooling you.
 
Yes that's right but I usually help myself because I pretty much know what to do except for some of the problems in math.
