I really need help w/ "Stan bought 3 lb of nuts at $4.79/lb and 3 lb of nuts at..."

I am having trouble understanding how do do this. Could someone please help me with a step by step explaination? I need to do several of these problems and cannot wrap my brain around it. I have changed the numbers slightly, so no one will be giving me answers to my work, but just helping learn how to solve through this example problem. Thank you for any help.

Stan bought 3 lb of nuts at $4.79/lb and 3 lb of nuts at $4.03/lb. If he wanted to buy 2 more pounds of a different kind of nut to make the average price per pound equal to $4.47, what price should he pay for the additional 2 lb?

Hi krisel. If you don't understand Denis' algebra on the arithmetic board, let us know.

Also, when they say, "the average price per pound equal to $4.47", they are talking about the entire purchase of three kinds of nuts, not just the extra 2 pounds purchased. In other words, the "average price per pound" is the total dollar amount paid (for three kinds of nuts) divided by the total pounds purchased.
