Its simple (To you guys b/c your older, wiser, and not dumb like me)

Ive been in gifted math for 3 years and ive failed it 3 years

2)John bought a pair of shoes during a 1/4 off sale. The original price was 34$.
After he paid for the shoes he had $14.26.How much money did he start with?

3)You are an employee at a store thats is having a 1/3 off sale.
Employees get an additional 1/5 off the sale price. How much would you pay for a jacket that was originally $60?

4)Kimo Has 1 1/2 lb. of salmonhe wants each person to get a 6-oz serving. How many people can he feed?

5)A 17 Min. Phone call to boston costs $2.38.What is the cost per minute?

6)One brand of cereal costs $1.79 for a 7.2 oz. box. A larger box that weighs 1 lb 4.25 oz costs $3.69 which size box is the better buy?

10)The scale on a map is 1.5 In:500 miles The map distance from chicago to tokyo is 12 in. find the actual distance between the cities.

THX! :D

Don't EVER give your email address on a public forum as the spam bots will harvest it. The purpose of this site is to help students who are having some problems with Math. We can't teach classes here and posting a laundry list of problems, without attempting them first, won't work here. What have you done on these?

WHY do you not do your homework?
If you get a job, do you expect to get paid if you don't show up?

1) Add up the time increments. Subtract from the desired arrival time.

2) How much is one-fourth of $34? Subtract this from $34 to find the sale price. Then add the money remaining to find the original total.

3) What is one-third of $60? Subtract this to get the "one-third off" amount. What is one-fifth of that amount? Subtract to get the final sale amount.

4) How many ounces are in a pound? How many ounces does Kimo have, in total? Into how many six-ounces portions can he divide this?

5) "This is some percent of that": To find the percent, divide "this" by "that".

6) Divide to find the unit costs. Compare.

7) Divide.

8) Divide.

9) Subtract the cost from the selling price to find the absolute increase. Then divide the increase by the cost to find the percent increase over cost.

10) How many "1.5 inches" fit into "12 inches"? So how many "500 miles" do you have?

 This is really seventh-grade gifted math...? My nine-year-old can do this stuff.

Gifted and not doing homework. This is an all-too-common problem.

Do you find it boring? Maybe more than just math?
Do you DO your homework, but just fail to hand it in?
Do parents or teachers hound you?
Will you have success out of public school?
Do you sit around and wait, hoping it will just go away?

The one thing that worked for me, when suffering very similar circumstances, was the realization that I did NOT have to be different from everyone else in every conceivable way. One day I just decided that getting good grades would NOT make me just like everyone else. I could still be me, just me with good grades. It turned out to be WAY easier than I thought. It also made it easier to get into a good college. It also got a whole host of psychologists and counselors off my back. Give it a try. Make up your mind, then buckle down and do it!

Our society has gotten quite a bit better at identifying gifted students, but we haven't gotten all that much better at servicing their needs. You, your parents, your teachers, and your school adminsitrators may be able to find valuable resources, easily obtainable on the internet. One of my favorite places is http://www.freespirit.com They have a ton of stuff about surviving yourself and your environment. Give it a look and don't keep it a secret. :)

It's called, "We think this student isn't QUITE ready for algebra, so let's see if we can hide him/her in this other class for a year or two." Sadly, it is a common theme, probably based on the very much outdated view that "gifted" means only one thing. Very slowly we are overcoming this error.

That makes no sense. If you were failing gifted math, you would be pulled out of it and put in a lower level class. You can't even fail one marking period of gifted math, before the teacher tells you that gifted level math is not for you Those problems aren't even what I would constitute as "gifted" math for 7th grade, maybe for 4th grade, but not 7th.

If you can't handle gifted math, you should talk to your parents about being placed in an average class.

Perhaps, but "gifted and not able even to start the homework"...?
