If I were to do this problem, I would use:

cos(2 * x/2) = 1 - 2*sin²(x/2) and

cos(2 * ax/2) = 1 - 2*sin²(ax/2)

Alternatively, divide the numerator and denominator by x, rearrange, and apply a couple well-known limits.
