5 students in a 300 Silver class completed a GA test out of 60. Chris got double the mark of James, and 10 marks more than Sarah. Jennifer scored 5 marks more than Chris and beat Maxwell by 1 mark.

If the second highest score was 58, what was the average score of the class?

Jennifer beat Maxwell, who beat Chris, who beat (Sarah and James)
So Maxwell is the second highest. Maxwell is 58.
You should be able to work them all out from that.

Or a more formal method:
Write each of their scores e.g. in terms of Sarah's score, s

In order:
s, s+10, s+14, s+15
and s/2+5 (James, half of Chris who is s+10) which is smaller than Chris's score so it is either just below s or just above s. In either case, the second largest is s+14 which equals 58.
You now should be able to find the 5 scores.
