Which are the "similar" triannles in the figure?
Unfortunately there is no metion of similar triangles, I have to work with what is gicen in the figure and I don't know where to start. However, there are answers at the back of the book but we are asked to prove or show that x=mtan(A)sec^2(A) and y=mtan^2(A)sec(A).

What theorem do you know about ratios of the sides of similar triangles?
