We are installing a hardwood floor ourselves for the first time. Usually people 'rack' or line up the planks in each row and use a special saw to cut off the extra from the end of each row. We are trying to do this as inexpensively as possible so we don't want to rent the specialized saw. We want to use the planks as they are without cutting them. They are all different sizes cut to within an 8th of an inch. We need each row to be 140 and 1/4 inches long. (140.25")

Is there a formula I could use to figure out how to use the planks without cutting to get to 140 and 1/4 inch long?

I've measured a bunch of the planks and labeled the back of them. Here's an example of some of various measurements of the planks all in inches:
78 3/4, 28 3/4, 23 1/2, 23 5/8, 64, 22 3/8, 20 1/2, 11 5/8, 12 1/2, 18 3/4, 9 7/8, 11 3/8, 58 3/8
We've just been randomly taking several planks and adding a few more to try to get to 140.25" For example: 78.75 + 28.75 = 107.5 then take 140.25 - 107.5 = 32.75 We need the last plank in this row to be 32.75" If we don't have one that's 32.75 we have to rearrange etc it's just really difficult.

There must be an easier way to do this if only we were better at math, please help. We can fudge by 1/8 inch and not worry about it because the trim will cover it. Any ideas that could help would be greatly appreciated.
