Lucky Downs runs an exact each evning. To win, a better must select the first two horses in order. Seven horses complete in each race. How would this problem be solved...I am stumped

Simple. Pick the first two finishers.

What do you mean? State an actual problem, please.

First calculate how many ways (total) the horses can be picked - N[sub:2t7gkbk8]1[/sub:2t7gkbk8]

Since two particular horses finish two particular spot

how many ways five horses can be picked for the rest of the five spots - N[sub:2t7gkbk8]2[/sub:2t7gkbk8]

Now continue....
