okay I'm still really confused about these confidence & significance levels. Take a look at these two questions:
Q1. A hypothesis test is conducted at the 5% significance level, and the alternative hypothesis is of the form u > α. The test statistic is z = 1.82, meaning there is sufficient statistical evidence to reject the null hypothesis in favor of the alternative hypothesis.
A1. This is true because 1.82 > 1.645, so the null hypothesis should be rejected.
Q2. A hypothesis test is conducted at the 5% significance level, and the alternative hypothesis is of the form u ≠ α. The test statistic is z = 1.82, meaning there is sufficient statistical evidence to reject the null hypothesis in favor of the alternative hypothesis.
A2. This is false because this is a two-tailed test. Since 1.82 < 1.96, we do not reject the null hypothesis.
okay so that means that at the 5% significance level, α is equal to both 1.645 and 1.96??? I thought it sohuld only equal to 1.96?
edit:
also for Probability of a Type II Error, P(Z<-1.43) = .0764
anyone know how they got .0764 from P(Z<-1.43) :? ?
