Just wondering if I solved this properly?

(.7)(6%)(150/450) + 9.23 (300/450)

(7/10) (6/100) (150/450) + (9.23/100)(300/450)

skipping a few steps

42/3000 + 18.46/300

= .028 ?

Is this correct

thank you for taking the time

No.
To start with, 42/3000 + 18.46/300 is not = .028, but = .07553333333......

But even that is incorrect: your (9.23/100) should be (923/100); so you'd get: 42/3000 + 1846/300 = 6.1673333333...

Much easier to convert to fractions, then simplify:
(7/10) * (6/100) * (150/450) + (923/100) * (300/450)
= (7/10) * (3/50) * (1/3) + (923/100) * (2/3)
= (7/10) * (1/50) + (923/50) * (1/3)
= 7/500 + 923/150
= (21 + 9230) / 1500
= 9251 / 1500
= 6.167333333...

As far as I know (or can tell), ending with a single fraction (9251 / 1500) makes math teachers "happy";
so you may get an extra mark! But one thing fer sure: they get annoyed if you don't simplify :wink:

Re: HW solution is this correct?

so if I was to take this one step further:

Is this correct? finding unknown

10.85 = 6.167(450/3350) + X (2900/3350)

10.85/100 = 6.167 (9/67) + X (58/67)

10.58 = 55.503/6700 + X 58/67

stuck here with the X do I carry the 55.503/6700 to the other side of the = sign?

thanks for your previuos help :)

stuck here with the X do I carry the 55.503/6700 to the other side of the = sign? <<< First correct it as indicated above then yes - you need to isolate the variable

First of all:

start a new thread for a new problem

I am assuming you are using a calculator. For these types of problems, unless otherwise instructed explicitly, I convert everything to decimals and use the MEMORY function of calculator to store intermediate steps (numbers). Start practicing now - it will help you later...

10.85 = 6.167(450/3350) + X (2900/3350)

10.85 = 0.828402985 + X * 0.865671642

X * 0.865671642 = 10.85 - 0.828402985

X = 10.02159701/ 0.865671642

X = 11.57667241

Re: HW solution is this correct?

Thank you.
I have tried to do the equations both ways. Doing decimals seems easier.
Thanks again

10.85/100 = 6.167 (9/67) + X (58/67) :CAUTION!! you divided a term by 100: then you MUST divide ALL other terms by 100!
Make your life easier; 1st, isolate the x term:
2900x / 3350 = 10.85 = 6.167(450/3350)
simplify:
58x / 67 = 10.85 - 9(6.167) / 67
multiply by 67000:
58000x = 726950 - 55503
58000x = 671447
x = 671447 / 58000 = 11.57667....
