How to measure shape proportion

I was wondering how I could go about measuring shape proportion so only proportion of a shape is captured not it's size meaning for instance 'S' type of shape whether it would be small 's' or really huge 'S' would have similar value. The same for 'o' or 'O' . And also for instance 'S' value would be closed to five '5' than to 'O'.
Sorry if this is trivial question but it keeps bugging me and I can't find right approach.
I'm not sure how the value of the shape proportion should be stored but if I would want to keep track of what is more similar and what is not than maybe vector space ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Please explain what you mean by "And also for instance 'S' value would be closed to five '5' than to 'O'." Closed should be closer?
Need context. What are you trying to do?

Hey lev888,
Thanks for you reply. Sorry for the typo. Yes 'S' should be closer to '5' than to '0' as 5 and S has more characteristic shape proportion similarities between each other than any of the two with '0'.
I'm not trying to do anything in particular but I'm just wondering if similarity measure
can be apply to shapes no matter what size they are meaning it should be base on proportion.
Thanks
E

The linked article talks about similarity measure, not proportion measure. Similarity function has 2 'arguments' and it measures how similar they are. I am not sure what proportion measure would do. I am assuming you want it to calculate a number based on one shape (how?) and you expect similar shapes to have similar values. You can read the article to see how similarity is quantified. I am not sure how shapes could be quantified.
