How many pounds of dried apricots costing $3.20 per pound should be mixed with 12 lb of dried pears costing $2.60 per pound to produce a mixture costing $3 per pound

12x*3x=3.20x+31.2......QUESTION IS HOW COME 3 is 3x?? I minused 3 from both side and it was wrong what x represents?

Let x=the amount of apricots at $3.2 a pound.

We are mixing this x amount with 12 lbs of pears. This gives 12+x pounds in all.

And this 12+x pound mixture is $3 a pound.

So, we have:

\(\displaystyle 3.2x+2.6(12)=3(12+x)\)

Solve for x.
