Since you said it was a "quiz", isn't that kind of cheating to ask us to even help you with it? What about something called the "honor code" that you are expected to follow? :wink:
 
no not really im just asking for help and my teacher said it was ok im not asking for the answer....im just wondering how to do it correctly

Assuming the subject line refers to the post (and they frequently don't, which is why it's best to include the entire exercise inside your post), then you need to solve "8x = 9y" for "x/y =".

So divide through by 8y.
