HI I AM WONDERING HOW TO COMBINE LIKE TERMS AND TERMS THAT ARE UNLIKE.THEY ARE SO HARD!!!!!
thanks for your help,

Suppose you have 3 dogs and 5 bananas. Can you combine them in any meaningful way? I don't think that you can, except to say you have 8 "things."
But what if you have 3 dogs and 6 dogs? Can you combine those? I think you can...3 dogs plus 6 dogs is (3 + 6) dogs, or 9 dogs.
Or, if you have 2 bananas and 4 bananas, you can combine those: 2 bananas plus 4 bananas is (2 + 4) bananas, or 6 bananas.
I have 2 dogs and 3 bananas. George has 4 dogs and 2 bananas. What do George and I have together? Well, we have
2 dogs and 3 bananas and 4 dogs and 2 bananas
OR....
2 dogs and 4 dogs and 3 bananas and 2 bananas
OR.....
(2 + 4) dogs and (3 + 2) bananas
OR
6 dogs and 5 bananas
Did that seem "SO HARD"?? What I just did was "combine like terms"
2 d + 3 b + 4d + 2b
2d + 4d + 3b + 2b
(2 + 4)d + (3 + 2)b
6d + 5b
That's adding like terms.
You can combine the same kinds of things...dogs and dogs, or bananas and bananas.
You CANNOT combine different kinds of things...dogs and bananas.
